Hall Breaks Through in Indianapolis with First CDC Crown

Brayden Hall claimed his first CDC Tour title on Saturday, defeating Jason Watt 7-4 in the final of the Cosmo Darts Classic in Indianapolis.

The 23-year-old Canadian, who reached his first CDC final earlier this season at Event Two, went one better in Event Six, coming through a competitive field to secure a landmark victory.

Hall’s triumph came at the end of a strong run through the bottom half of the draw, beginning with a 6-2 quarterfinal win over second seed Kiley Edmunds. He then survived a semifinal thriller against Jeff Smith, edging out the Canadian veteran 7-6 to deny Smith a place in the final for the second consecutive day.

Smith, who had reached the semifinals of Friday’s Winmau Darts Trophy before falling to Adam Sevada, had again impressed in Indianapolis, defeating third seed David Cameron 6-4 in the quarterfinals.

Watt, meanwhile, enjoyed a breakthrough day of his own, reaching his first career CDC Tour final after a superb run through the top half of the draw. After defeating Jim Long 6-3 in the quarterfinals, Watt produced one of the performances of the day in the semifinals, sweeping past top seed Sevada 7-2 to reach Saturday’s showpiece.

The final was a composed performance from Hall, who kept finding timely legs despite Watt edging the match average 81.51 to 80.89 and firing in both 180s recorded in the contest.

Watt twice pulled level in the early stages, and later cut the deficit to 4-3, but Hall responded by winning three of the final four legs. The Canadian sealed the title with a 16-dart leg, closing out a 7-4 victory and his maiden CDC crown.

Elsewhere, Kieran Strauss made an immediate impression on his CDC Tour debut, reaching the Last 16 before falling in a deciding leg to Sevada. John Liggett also produced one of the day’s standout performances, demolishing second seed Leonard Gates in the Last 32 before pushing eventual champion Hall to a deciding leg in the Last 16.

Joe Chaney led the field statistically with an 89.13 average for the day, while Watt’s 11 180s were more than double the total of his nearest challenger.

For Hall, though, the Cosmo Darts Classic marked a significant breakthrough, as he converted his second CDC final appearance into a first Tour title!
