Spellman Ends Year-Long Drought with Statement Win in Chicago

Alex Spellman produced a dominant performance on Saturday in Chicago, whitewashing David Cameron 7-0 in the final to claim the 2025 Cosmo Darts Championship, his fifth career CDC Main Tour title.

The win comes almost one year to the day from his last trip to the winner’s circle – in Event #11 of the 2024 CDC season in Niagara Falls – and it and adds to a trophy case that also includes a Continental Cup and Cross Border Darts Challenge crown. Spellman was in complete control in the final, not giving Cameron even one shot at double and dropping the Canadian man to 9-6 in CDC event finals.

Spellman’s path to the final included a 6-1 quarterfinal win over Gary Brooks and a 7-5 semifinal victory over Darryl Christie. He also topped the 180 leaderboard with 11 on the day – three more than Christie – and finished among the tournament’s top three in scoring.

Cameron, seeded third, edged Jacob Taylor 6-5 in the quarterfinals and survived a tense battle with Stowe Buntz in the semis, running out a deciding-leg win 7-6. Despite the final result, he remains firmly in provisional World Championship qualification as the top Canadian player on the circuit, still well clear of Darryl Christie.

While the top-four seeds all advanced to the quarterfinals, unseeded players were also well represented with Wyoming man, Gary Brooks, carrying the flag as he made his first career CDC quarterfinal appearance. Adam Sevada, freshly minted as the top-seed, was edged 6-5 by Christie in the quarters but posted the highest event average at 92.48 over 27 legs, just ahead of Christie’s 92.16 over 45.

With just five events remaining, the race for Continental Cup positioning continues to heat up with players like John Part, Jacob Taylor and Ross Snook needing strong performances over the remainder of this weekend and in Indianapolis next month to book their spots in Philadelphia.
