Sevada Completes Cambridge Sweep with DJD Masters Victory

Adam Sevada completed a dream weekend in Canada with his second straight CDC title, defeating Stowe Buntz 7-3 in the final of Event #4 – the DJD Masters – on Sunday in Cambridge, Ontario.

Fresh off his Saturday triumph at the Cosmo Darts Classic, Sevada raised the bar yet again on Sunday, producing the highest tournament average of the day at 92.06 and firing in a field-best 15 maximums—five more than his nearest rival. After dispatching David Cameron in the quarterfinals and overpowering Kaidon Newberry 7-2 in the semis, Sevada turned in another composed performance in the final to complete the weekend sweep.

Buntz, also playing in his second final in as many days, once again fought his way through a tough section of the draw. He dropped just one leg to Doug Boehm in the quarterfinals, then produced one of the moments of the season with a nine-dart leg in his semifinal against Jim Long. He survived two match darts in that thrilling 7-6 victory, checking out 21 to reach yet another final. While the title once again slipped through his fingers, Buntz’s consistency across the weekend was enough to lock up the final Order of Merit berth into the US Darts Masters and North American Championship at Madison Square Garden later this month.

The event also showcased rising stars on both sides of the border. Colorado’s Kaidon Newberry backed up his quarterfinal run on Saturday with a semifinal finish on Sunday—his deepest run yet on the CDC Tour. Ontario’s Tyler Rettie also made a statement with his first career quarterfinal appearance. Meanwhile, Jason Brandon, less than 24 hours removed from punching his ticket to New York via the second US Darts Masters qualifier, ran out of steam in the quarters, suffering a 6-0 defeat to local hero, Jim Long.

With back-to-back titles, Adam Sevada now firmly puts himself into the ‘best player on the continent’ discussion —just as the spotlight begins to shift to darts’ biggest stage in North America.
