Krueger Continues Stunning Surge with Cosmo Darts Championship Crown

Fred Krueger continued his remarkable 2026 campaign on Saturday, defeating Alex Spellman 7-4 to claim the Cosmo Darts Championship title in Oakbrook Terrace. The victory marked Krueger’s third CDC Tour title of the season, further underlining his emergence as one of the defining stories of the year on the Championship Darts Circuit.

Krueger’s latest triumph also carried major World Championship implications, as he moved past Leonard Gates into second place on the 2026 CDC Tour Points List. With Adam Sevada already qualified for the World Darts Championship by virtue of his North American Championship victory, Krueger is now provisionally positioned as the top American CDC player not otherwise qualified, with five events remaining in a tight race for Alexandra Palace.

The 14th seed began the final stages with a dominant 6-1 quarterfinal win over sixth seed Doug Boehm, before surviving a stern semifinal test against Joey Lynaugh, edging through 7-6 to reach another CDC showpiece. Lynaugh’s semifinal run marked his first appearance in the last four since Event Three in Philadelphia, as he enjoyed his best run in several months.

Spellman, meanwhile, produced a statement display in the quarterfinals, whitewashing Joseph Chaney 6-0 before defeating Kiley Edmunds 7-2 in the semifinals. Edmunds, who has quietly pieced together a solid season, reached the semifinals for the first time this year after knocking out top seed Sevada 6-5 in the quarterfinals.

There was also a welcome return to form for Boehm, who reached the quarterfinals after failing to progress beyond the Last 32 since Event Six in Brownsburg.

Gates endured a costly early exit, falling 5-1 to Mike Scarborough at the first hurdle on a day when Krueger’s title run changed the complexion of the World Championship race. The final itself was played at an excellent standard, with Krueger averaging 98.09 to Spellman’s 89.72. Spellman started brightly, taking the opening leg, but Krueger responded by winning four of the next five to move 4-2 ahead. The highlight came in the sixth leg, when Krueger produced a superb 12-darter capped by a 167 checkout.

Spellman continued to battle, cutting the deficit to 5-4, but Krueger held firm, taking the final two legs to seal a 7-4 victory and a third CDC title of a memorable season.
